Samhain is the end of the Celtic year so it's only natural that we should feel inclined to slow down, make resolutions and begin the big dream time of winter, setting us up nicely for when spring finally arrives.
Love in your sketches as always. The Van Gogh image gave me the feeling that that man infront of the painting is Van Gogh himself time travelling to relook at his work!
Oh I love that perspective! Both on Samhain. And on the Van Gogh. Have you read the book “the ancient paths”? It’s such a fascinating look at the celts.
No, I have not read that yet. I will look it up... thanks.
Talking of books, I also really enjoyed your dreaming in colour sketch / collage. It reminded me of Aldous Huxley's The Doors Of Perception / Heaven & Hell which I read recently. I found it a difficult read in parts but I remember he said that most dreams took place in black and white, and I was astonished as I'm pretty sure most if not all of mine are in full glorious technical. I felt sorry for him and his two toned dreams! Have you read it?
I haven’t read it. But I’m ordering it from the library now. I definitely also dream in full colour. And I think my other senses (smell etc) work as well. Pretty crazy! I didn’t know that wasn’t “normal”.
Autumnal resolutions are a great idea! I can't make any right now, though... Because I'm in the Southern Hemisphere 😉. I do feel I have a valid excuse. But at least that gives me 6 months or so to think of mine. 😁
I have been under a lot of stress lately, and looking at your drawings has an incredibly calming effect. And this post -- eve though it is from last fall -- has provided a much-needed respite. Thank you!
I love the little notes that accompany your sketches :'). To me, they feel like they offer a very personal key to look into a window of everyday magic of yours.
I am delayed in reading this, but what a great idea (and time) to ground myself before the busyness of the holidays are upon us! I have felt myself already becoming very reflective of this year and could use all the peace and calm that comes with this type of resolution, which feels more like a reset than setting obscure goals for the year.
The autumnal resolution. Feels right. I had this resolution I’ve gotten away from - ‘Walk daily. Long or short. Near or far. Ignore the weather.’ Inspired to get back to that…
I feel a lot the arrival of autumn as well! I think it's when we let ourselves fall down together with the leaves from the trees, after the hot, busy summer days. Nothing like a grey day to make us pause outside so things can move inside. Love the watercolors, very inspiring!!!!
Autumn resolutions - so much better than new years resolutions! A daily walk does wonders, I have them on and off, but perhaps committing to a daily walk will give consistency
You're absolutely right about the potential that's in thd air at this time of the year. Although I do dread the disruptive hubbub of the holiday planning and everything. But I've got deeper sights on my creative life! And your sketchbook is so lovely to behold!

I have the feeling Aldous got it wrong. I'm sure at least half of us must dream in colour. I hope so anyway!
I love the idea of Autumn Resolutions. Your idea of a daily walk with your art sounds perfect for me too!
Thanks! I think small steps are so much more effective than grand plans...
I saw the picture with you having coffee with your mom. Special times ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! Definitely. I love the times we have together. They are so precious.

Any new season is a wonderful time to reset one’s soul.
Oh no, I wanted 6 months to think about it. :P Just wanted to add, I enjoyed your drawing of wrestling with the duvet. Haha, relatable.
Well then! Take six months if you want! It's between us.... ;-)
I have been under a lot of stress lately, and looking at your drawings has an incredibly calming effect. And this post -- eve though it is from last fall -- has provided a much-needed respite. Thank you!
Oh. That makes me so happy (not that you’re under stress, but that my sketchbook provides some respite)

Thank you so much for your kind words. That is exactly how I hope my drawings and notes feel for people.
It's morning where I am & I'm starting my day sending you love & gratitude for this beautiful post. ❤️✨️🙏🎶
Thanks! Sending it right back to you! All the best for the new day.

Yes! It is a reset instead of an overwhelming to do list. All the best!

I love that resolution. “Near of far”. Poetic and genius.

That’s so true! And I love the way you expressed it.
Thank you!! :)

I love this so much. Just gentle steps are the best.
Love this reminder Jane 🙏🏽
Thanks! So glad you like it.
Your drawings are sweet and evocative and make me feel happy inside. Thank you for sharing your sketchbook with the world. 💕
I’m so glad they make you happy. That is my intention!
These are all fantastic.....I particularly like Man standing in front of Van Gogh
Thanks so much!

Thanks so much. I feel like little creative rituals keep the holiday hubbub at bay.
Your sketches, so good! 💚
Thank you so much. That means so much.
